The species of tree commonly known as Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) is unique to Western Australia and produces a dark, robust flavoured honey.

These magnificent trees are typically found in soils derived from ironstone and can be located in the south-west region of Western Australia.

Jarrah trees are slow growing, yet incredibly large and can reach heights of up to 50 metres. Some of the oldest specimens of Jarrah have been dated back to approximately 500 years.

The towering forests of Jarrah generally flower every two years from late spring to early summer where an abundant display of scented white-cream flowers can be seen.

The bees collect the nectar and pollen to make the thick deliciously tasting honey. It is not as sweet as other honey varieties due to the low glucose and high fructose levels.

Jarrah is sought after for its antibacterial and antimicrobial activity due to the high levels of hydrogen peroxide, which can inhibit the growth of Golden Staph Bacteria.

Active honey such as Jarrah can be tested for its bacteria killing scale; this is recognised by a symbol that includes a number which determines its antimicrobial strength. Each batch of our Jarrah honey has been sent to a laboratory where it is tested to determine its Total Activity rating (TA) with our most recent TA 35+ batch coming in with an actual reading of TA 43.5.

Conclusive research by Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia has determined the antimicrobial properties of Jarrah honey. With many beneficial uses Jarrah honey can be applied to wounds, ulcers and burns, used to improve stomach health and sore throats among its many other health benefits.

Jarrah honey is a unique world-class table honey and is less likely to crystallise due the high fructose, low glucose levels.
